View Full Version : double backflip
I was wondering, how hard is the double backflip in vert. I can do the single flip in vert and the double on street but how hard is it to bring the double to vert?

I dont think that it is hard, If you know the right way to do it.
It is best to go to woodward or something for that, I would feel a lot better trying it in a pit or a resi ramp instead of just hucking it
two problems with going to woodward. I dont have the money, and i'll be 19 on the 13th, which means i can go to woodward, unless i turn pro :D . Which sucks becuase i've always wanted to go to woodward and woodward east is only 12 hours drive from my house. So ya it sucks becuase to only way i could go to woodward now is to turn pro, or get an invite from woodward to come skate, which i doubt would happen becuase why would they want a no-name skater from wisconsin to come skate

Not true,
They now have something called family action getaways where you can come for a weekend whenever you want or something like that.

yeah I did that get away before I turned pro. It's a little expensive but it's worth it. That's how I learned flat 5's and 9's.

Yeah i was working on my 900 mctwist for years and couldnt land it, then at woodward i landed it on the resi then i was able to land them on the ramp after.
does anyone know if any AM has pulled a double backflip, or have most ppl waited till they become pro so they can go to woodward whenever they want and then learn them.

he's pro, i acually got the idea of the double backflip on street from that video, but im talking about an am throwing the double backflip i vert

Fakie bio 540, REALLY laid out. i do a bio 540 but it's a bitch if i dont land it becuase i will come crashing into the ramp, or concreate, with my side usaually my right side.

Hey for whom it may concern , the DB on the half pipe is a very hard trick and very dangerous , i dont recommend to try in the ramp.
If you have a chance to go to woodward , great !
If not try to sign on as a employer for next summer !
take care

i know it's a dangerouse trick, i've tried it twice in street ( if you want to see one of my atempts check this out http://www.StupidVideos.com/?VideoID=826 ), both times i've knocked myself out. the firsttime, the video, i was out for 5minuets, but i need some big tricks and the double is one i know i could do if i get the air in the vert, i can spin enough hell i've been trying triple backflips into a foam pit.

so it sounds like that might be a good trick to try on the trip. gotta learn something new at one of the biggest parks on the east coast. just don't hurt yourself too bad cause i'm not to good at driving downtown louisville.

i have done them in fun box foam pits before and found that quite easy. but on vert it is much much harder. i tried a few in the vert foam pits at woodward west and got around ok. but it is really something you would want to try in foam then resi then ramp first. i think nel learned them just using a ramp and knocked himself out a few times in trying.

( if you want to see one of my atempts check this out http://www.StupidVideos.com/?VideoID=826 ) heh I admire your sense of humor to put your moment of concussion on a website for everyone to share!
Yknow, Ive been doing backflip on launch ramps for years now, but Ive never had the kahunas to try double! something about landing rotating backflip, facing forward, on a downhill plane! I learned the best first place to try throwing flips (for those of us without chucky-cheese soft landings) is off the top of a quarter pipe iwth a flat landing, or a transfer from quarter pipe to a flat bank. Usually, these arent wicked high, and the landings are easier to stick.
btw: not to be pessimistic, but Im curious: whats your worst injury? I lost an ear learning corkscrew 540, (it was stiched back) broke my wrist on a handrail.
it not a bad fall but funny and it hurt . when i first started skating vert i didn't realize that you wanted you skates as tight as possible and i work my Chris Haffey Remz as loose as i do on street, which i dont tie the laces and unly have the strap on a little. So I was airing at Lake Owen, the fisr place i did vert skating, andi came out of an air to low and my skates slide out a little and i went off the side of the vert ramp at about 3/4 of the way up. Oh cource i freaked out, started flailing all over the place and ended up landing on the railing of the stairs going up to the vert ramp, and fell over the side onto my shoulder, pooping it out of place.

Lol man you will need a lot more height to do a double on a launch box than that.
rocksanddirt
10-22-2004, 10:28 PM
yes my right shoulder occaisionally dislocates too (sometimes when weightlifting!)
I agree w/dave.. the courage is admirable, but you need a shitton more height... I press down hard on the launch ramp as I take off for backflip

I doubt Ill ever be on the level for double back... its so dangerous, maybe the next step after backflip is flatspin (Ive yet to land this one)?

...ended up landing on the railing of the stairs going up to the vert ramp, and fell over the side onto my shoulder, pooping it out of place.
even funnier with the typo :D
i didn't see that typo, god i'm a dumbass. I know i need more height i figured my problem with the first attempt is that i jumped to early concentration to much on the spin.

i guess i'm lucky, i've never had that serious of an injury from skating...except for a few months ago i strained my hamstring skating...but that was my fault, i didn't stretch before i started skating.
by street, do you mean 'street' as in ledges and rails, or 'street' as in park?
a double back on real street is insane, and almost impossible.
theres a contest at my local park this weekend, www.undercoverskatepark.com , and im going to throw the double backflip for the best trick part so weather i land it or not i'll be posting a video of it for everyone to see.

i want a copy........had a great time on that trip......
it's been 5 months, but i still dont know what a shitton is.
...and i thought my idea of going to chuck-e-cheese when you could afford to go to woodward/didnt have a trampoline idea was original.
But you gotta admits...it's a DAMN good idea.
Well i threw it and my knees are hating me know. I tried it 3 times before my knees started to kill to much becuase my first attemp i open WAY to early and smashed my knees into the ramp. Then the other 2 i open a little to early and i just ran out of juice. I'm capuring the video now so in about 20 minuets i'll have them up
http://www.skatetek.net/v6/e107_files/videos/doubleback.mpg
here it is all 3 attemps to the double
you're robbing yourself of momentum. you need to use your arms more leading into the trick. although i really don't have any credibility giving you advice, you should whip your arms up more. if you watch videos of people doind martial arts, they whip their arms up and behind them. they don't casually throw them back. these people do double backflips on the ground using this technique. other than the use of the arms, everything looks good. the 2nd attempt looked the best, as your skate clipped the flybox, which means if you held just a moment longer, you would have landed the trick.
