tricks are hard, but so are some grabs.. i'll describe how i do an indian which i think is one of the hardest grabs you can do..
i started by doing little airs (half of what i can do) and just grabbing a mute confidently with my inside hand,, that was the hardest bit for me.. once you can do that try tweaking it like a switch method, you prob need to be about 4 foot atleast for this.. once you are confident doing that,, the hard bit, making it point straight up and stopping there.... i ride the ramp straight off pointing completely upwards,, liek a rocket,, grab inside mute and push your hips right up as far as you can and throw your head right back as far as you can, hold, re-enter. the hardest bit, once you can do them, is getting a good take off cos you need more room than if your just doing a normal air like a mute or stale where you are looking down, it might feel like you have poped out too far, but you havnt!
learn as many different grabs as you can.. its half the beauty of vert, you cant do them anywhere else in skating like you can on a vert!
