lets just put it this way sure u can do amazing flips but its all nothing compared to street, we do most of what u already do plus more my example is ian mcleoud's (spelling) top soul 900 out off a handicap rail ugh
so yeah not to mention vert (which by the way is the only rollerblading i ever see on the x games) doesnt really accuaretly portray rollerblading since most kidz nowadays skate street so ahhhh yeah that just my input

This is the problem right here,

If you look at skateboarding, everyone likes street vert and bowl as a whole. There is no seperation.

The reason inline has problems is because there is no unity.

As Arlo once said "we need to bring unity to the community" in his freestlye rap.

If everyone just looks at skating for what it is and not what you skate, the industry would be better off.

Innovate: I wonder if you really can do what vert skater do. Do you skate vert? Do those flips and high on vert? I'm sure you know vert skaters who skate street well. Actually some of the top vert pros are able to just step into the top ten in street comps. I don't know of any street skaters who can make top ten in vert.

But that's not the point. It's all about respecting each other and the work and passion it takes to get that good. As Nick Rigel said, "Don't hate on your own kind". What if we expand our view of what "our own kind" is so it includes all extreme sports...even all individual sports? What if we banded together for sponsors and exposure and cash and even health insurance?

We could all do good things and have more fun with a bit more change in our pockets. Wouldn't it be fun to have the cash a top golfer has? What would you do with that amount of money? Something to consider.

You can't compare street and vert. How can you compare Takeshi doing a double flat spin 10' high to some one doing a crazy triple kink with huge gap? The Yasutokos are the dominants of vert and they've been skating for
13+ years. And most of the other vert pros have been skating from 7-11 years on vert. Now most of the street pros haven't been skating that long.
In your opinion it may not portray rollerblading because you just go out on the street and watch the videos. Get more well rounded and trying skate vert. If all you've scene is the X-Games you are a very uneducated rollerblader. Street, vert, park don't hate on your own kind even though we may be way different.

I just don't like all the hate in the same sport,
i mean i skate park and vert and when the street skaters come in they all give equal respect to someone who can skate everything.

Like Sven, he is an all around skater. I lthink Sven is a great skater beacuse of his ability to skate everything.

Im fairly new (but dedicated lately) to vert riding, but Ive been skating street for years. Ive noticed that I get less respect (not only because wearing pads is currently a style faux-pas) from my street-only friends for throwing flips in the park. They only work rails. They claim that street skating is more 'abstract' and creative than vert or jumps. They dont go to contests because of their hate for organized sports. I just competed in the Mile High City Battle in denver. (fiftytwoeighty.com) Theres so much talent, but noone really cares about getting attention from the public. Having connections with dedicated street skaters, it seems to me that the sport could care less about pleasing crowds or being recognized. I guess until 'the style' becomes less 'underground', Ill still be getting sneers from the outnumbering skateboarders...

Welcome, Pete. Always props to those who do what they love no matter what anyone says.

Seems people who aren't sure of themselves and who they are need to create us versus them scenes where they can be a member of the "good guys" and put down the other guys. No matter what subject, you can always find ways one group is different (better?) than the other -- boards/blades, skis/snowboards, surfers/bodyboarders, men/women, gays/straights, whites/others, dogs/cats, etc.

Sooner or later, we'll all just learn to respect each other and appreciate our differences.

hahahahah this is sad..... GROW UP!

TRSsk8r

I assume you are speaking to Innovate to grow up?

You got a point there. When I think of vert skaters, I think of men (and women). When I think of the street skaters, I think of guys and girls.

Someone said something about street guys not being interested in being known. that's fine if you want to work at a job and skate in your spare time. But if you want to earn your way as a skater, you have to be known, street or vert. Vert skaters have to go where verts are and TV and contests help that. Street skaters can go anywhere as long as they have a good cameraman along to get them in a video. Still, both street and vert skaters work to get publicity if that's their career.

and trssk8r has a point as well. even though im only 14, i always think of vert as the more grown up discipline, ie not having to climb fences or anything to reach spots or run away from the police. street is still a great part of rolling though, just but not the not some of the things that can happen in it.

right on, sam. And from your post on another topic about how you don't get attitude, sounds like you're putting out good and that's got a lot to do with getting good back.

i don't think everyone actually understands vert. most people that diss vert have either: a) never tried it... b) are jealous... or c) can't do it. for all the people that diss vert... i want to see them blast 10 foot airs...thats means your about 22 feet up in mid-air...think about dropping from 22 feet. that scares most people. and on top of that it takes endurance to skate vert, most people won't put up with it when they could just go skate street. but enough of my rant.

sam
11-09-2004, 03:46 PM
ive never really thought of that before. im fine with airing but i dont want to drop an extension, even though it'll be just the same as airing? thanks KYSkater, you put a bit of faith in me! i think jealousy must have something to do with people dissing vert, because they'll insult it, and they'll then watch :?

KYSkater
11-09-2004, 03:52 PM
thought about what: 22 feet in the air? i had just thought of that when i was typing. you always hear "look at takeshi blast that 10 foot rocket air" and if you think about it the halfpipe is somewhere around 12'...but unless you go off sideways or jump out to flat its only about 10 or so because of the re-entrance in the pipe.

sam
11-09-2004, 04:01 PM
yeah, falling to the flat can hurt...i bet the haters dont fully understand the workings of vert either, and see it as easy, not realising if you land out the vert or on the flat in a bad position, you could be screwed :(

Most ramps now are about 13 or 13.5 feet tall now.

KYSkater
11-09-2004, 07:46 PM
sorry i forgot...the one downtown is 12, but the rest i've skated was 13. it's hard to keep up with ramp sizes when you skate so many different ones.

sam
11-09-2004, 07:48 PM
whats the tallest they can go up to?

KYSkater
11-09-2004, 08:01 PM
well, Matt Hoffman made one 20' but it was just a quarter pipe...and he needed a motorcycle to get enough speed to go anouter 20 feet.

sam
11-09-2004, 08:11 PM
have you seen the one at the x games big air event? that was pretty big.

KYSkater
11-09-2004, 08:15 PM
oh yea, i completly forgot about that one. yea it was sort of like that. but its just a quarter. i don't know about a halfpipe.

Mat has a new World Record for the highest air on a BMX bike - 26.5 feet above the deck of a 24 foot tall quarterpipe, achieved on April 1, 2001

that was it....

sam
11-10-2004, 08:34 AM
i wouldnt like to see a bmxer screw up at that hight...i doubt that if someone made a 24 foor tall vert you would get the speed to travel up the other side.

KYSkater
11-10-2004, 02:09 PM
i think it might be possible. think about it....go down 24' come back up same distance or greater. just like a regular halfpipe...except alot bigger.

Paul
11-10-2004, 02:50 PM
He didn't make a 24foot half pipe it was a 24foot quarter pipe and he got pulled by a motocross bike to get the speed. I saw it on the ultimate X video

KYSkater
11-10-2004, 02:56 PM
dude...well, Matt Hoffman made one 20' but it was just a quarter pipe...and he needed a motorcycle to get enough speed to go anouter 20 feet. he just said he didn't think it would be possible to skate a 24' halfpipe. i know what his setup was i saw it on "Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2". He got knocked out cold too.
