So I was skating downtown a few weeks ago, just like I've done every weekend/chance I got for the last 6 years. It was an alright session. I could get most of my big safety tricks without having to try too hard. Then I went to try a newer line Ive been working on. Jump over a 2' ledge into a bank and then over a 4' steep bank launch. I didn't get the pump off the bank so i landed on the knuckle of the steep bank throwing me to flat. I wont go into it after that but dislocation and fracture of left arm. so now i got a plate and 3 screws in my arm.
Ive never had a major injury take me away from skating in 8 years. It was just getting to the point were i was happy with my skating. Going out week after week doing all my "safety" lines/tricks burning off frustrations of work. Finally landing the 540-flat a week before. Just found some new guys to skate with that actually push me to learn.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is there a point to even continue a "lifestyle/hobby" after being surgicially fixed?

I got the hard splint off the other day and got to see the xrays. turns out theres 6 screws.
Yea Fatality, i was watching a show on FuelTV and the BMXer Rick Thorne was going through his list of injuries. I know injuries are part of the sport, but in a world where sponsers and pros dont really exsist in our industry is there a point to keep progressing for the sake of a hobby?

It all depends on if it is worth it to you. If the enjoyment you get from skating is worth the potential future risk of getting injured again then keep doing it, if not then stop.

I have had surgery on my wrist in my right hand and broke a bone in my left hand. For me, as long as i have the option to keep skating vert, i will.

With the job I now have in the military I have to be very careful to not do any major injuries to myself, Does that mean I don’t skate anymore or push no tricks. Not at all, I’m still skating and pushing myself to learn new tricks because I love the sport. I know I’ll never get a sponsor again or maybe be able to compete but I still skate because it’s relaxing and I love it. You just got to look and ask why you still skate, if it’s only to go pro and that goal has passed then yes maybe it’s time to hang them up. But if you’re like me who just skate for the fun of it now then there are still many more years of happy skating ahead of you.

all good points... There are a lot of bladers out there with pins, surgeries and limitations out there. I've had 3 surgeries, one shoulder and two on my wrist. It can be hard coming back from injury though. Both physically and sociologically. You can also come back better more motivated. Try to learn what you can from this and then move forward.
